This
past Tuesday, the birdie world lost a very wonderful woman with the
passing of Karleen Koehler. She was the owner of a wonderful birdie
store called Jeepers Cheepers. But this was not just any bird store.
Karleen took in birds that people no longer wanted, rehabilitated the
ones that could be, and found wonderful homes for them. The ones that
could not be rehabilitated were cared for lovingly by her and her
volunteers.
Those of you who know the story of me and Dundee know just how much she
helped me. When I first adopted Dundee, he was a few months over 7 years
old. Because of things that had happened in his life up to that point,
his way of controlling his world was to bite any and all human hands who
came near him. I didn't know what to do. So when I went to the store to
get his food, I talked to Karleen about it. I was very upset that day.
She told me to bring him in the following week and she would work with
him. I did, and she was wonderful. She told me that he was biting out of
control and not meanness. She said we could work with that. She also
said that I had to learn how to be the mommy and he had to learn how to
be the birdie :))) She worked with both of us, and I listened to all her
wise advice. Today Dundee is a beautiful bird with a beautiful heart. I
feel privileged that he let me in and trusts me, and other humans now
:))) All of this would not have been possible without Karleen's help.
Our
local newspaper did a wonderful article on her last November. The
parrot in the photo is another of her success stories. He now has a
wonderful home :-)))
Karleen's legacy are all the birds she rescued, rehabilitated and found
new homes for. And those she cared for lovingly so that their time on
earth was the best she could make it for them. I know when she arrived
at Rainbow Bridge, there were a lot of birds there to greet her and she
crossed with a very colorful flock.
Rest in peace, my friend. Dundee and I will never forget you.
Hugs and Love,
Carole and Dundee
Due
to the passing of Karleen,
Jeepers Cheepers has closed.
Dundee's view of Jeepers
Cheepers :-)
My Mommy takes me to a
really great bird store to get my food, and other things I need. It's
called Jeepers Cheepers! It's on Guide Meridian in Lynden, just north of
Bellingham in Whatcom County, WA.
The lady who owns the
store, Karleen, is very nice to me and she tells me what a pretty bird I
am. She likes to give me hugs and kisses! She also takes care of my wings
and nails. Mommy tells me that I'm going to have a spa experience when we
go there.

If you have a bird,
you should go to her store! And if you don't have a bird, go there and get
one! She has lots of beautiful birds! Big ones and little ones! I tried to
get my Mommy to get me a girlfriend but she said no, and got me a play gym
instead :-)) Jeepers Cheepers has beautiful playgyms (all handmade) and
LOTS of toys! These pictures are of me on my new playgym. Oh, and Jeepers
Cheepers also has my favorite of all things, fresh and natural
millet! It's so YUMMY!!!
