My Visit to Althorp

July 12, 1999

On July 12, 1999, I finally had the opportunity to visit Althorp. I wanted to go in 1998 but could not get tickets and had to wait until the following year. My visit was well worth the wait.

My compliments go to Earl Spencer for the beautiful job he did in creating a wonderful memorial to his sister, Diana.  I had the opportunity to meet and speak with him while I was there and he is a lovely and charming man.  The museum is filled with personal artifacts of Diana's from her childhood up through her adult life.  Although I'm sure many go to see her wedding dress which is on display, along with many of her other dresses, it was heart warming to see her toys and to read the letters she had written to her parents as a child.

Please enjoy these pictures that I took during my visit and I hope you get the chance to visit. It is well worth it.

All pictures (except the two quotes and the portrait) are thumbnails so

This portrait of Diana hangs in the family portrait gallery at Althorp. It was painted by the American artist Nelson Shanks. Diana wears a green Catherine Walker taffeta skirt and a billowing white chiffon blouse by Tomasz Starzewski.
