Porters English Restaurant  ,
17 Henrietta Street, London
Located in Convent Garden

I recently visited London which I do at least once a year, and finally made it to Porters restaurant in Covent Gardens. It is an absolutely wonderful place to eat!

Being a woman traveling alone, I am often uncomfortable in some restaurants, but not at Porters. I was greeted at the door with a welcoming smile by a very nice young man who showed me to my table.

My biggest problem came when I looked at the offerings on the menu and had to choose! There were so many wonderful sounding dishes. Being English and not having had good roast beef and Yorkshire pudding since my Mom passed away, I chose that. It was just like Mom's! Often in England, restaurants serve these little ready made Yorkshire puddings which can be bought at any supermarket over there, but not Porters! This was the real thing just like Mom used to make! I was in heaven! The beef was cooked to perfection and the vegetables were done just right!

I love the fact that Porters does not rush you when you are having a meal. I like to eat slowly, and sit and relax between courses, which I did while listening to the Beatles music playing in the background. Oh what wonderful memories some of those songs brought back!

Then it was time for another decision - dessert! Oh my!! Too many choices here as well!! I think the only thing I would add to the dessert menu would be one where you could choose three or four and just have a taste of each :)) I ordered the Apple and Blackberry Crumble with cream and was not disappointed. It was splendid!! Along with a nice pot of tea, it was the perfect ending to a very delicious meal!

For those going to London, do not miss going to Porters. The food, service, and ambiance are not to be missed!
